Canon IXUS turns 10

Canon’s range of IXUS compact digital cameras turn 10 this week, and you can be sure that it is going to be the most photographed party in town.

At the time of its launch way back when in the year 2000, IXUS was the world’s smallest and lightest digital camera with an optical zoom lens in the 2-megapixel sensor class. Ahh 2-megapixels. Remember those days? Makes us feel kinda old actually. Its release took the market by storm and represented a new generation of compact digital cameras, and Canon have never looked back really.

Last year the IXUS received the Long Life Design Award by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organisation and also took out the No. 1 ‘compact camera’ category spot in terms of Australian unit sales, according to GfK retail audit data.

“The IXUS range offers consumers plenty of style and substance, with each successive launch, improving image quality and exceeding design expectations,” said Danielle Hinton, Brand Manager – DSC, Canon Australia.
