If the Android vs iPhone competition wasn’t enough to get you excited, hold on to your seats, because the battle of the browser is on.
According to new figures by StatCounter, Google Chrome for the first time has leapfrogged Apple Safari to become the third most used internet browser in the US.
“This is quite a coup for Google as they have gone from zero to almost 10 per cent of the US market in under two years,” says StatCounter chief executive Aodhan Cullen.
In the report, which were based on statistics that ended on Sunday, Chrome had 8.97 per cent of the US browser market, beating Safari’s 8.88 per cent, who had lost their 1.5 per cent lead it held two months prior.
The two big boys of Firefox (28.48 percent) and Microsoft Internet Explorer (52 per cent), still rule the roost for now, however it will be interesting to see how things pan out over the coming year.
Interestingly on a global scale, Chrome has 9.4% of the market while Safari holds just 4%.

They’re both based on the awesome webkit, so I’m just happy to see both their usage increasing!

Pity that Chrome isn’t accessible to users of Assistive Technology and furthers Google’s track record for lack of support to web accessibility. : (
Stick with Safari or Firefox if you want to support an open web for ALL users.

Tried Chrome for a while but ended up going back to Safari for browsing and Firefox for development.
Chrome’s useless to the myriads still using PPC’s.
And Firefox is far more stable than Safari…so all I can really say is… care factor?…0
