It’s one of the most wanted and most talked about cameras in the industry right now, and the ante has just been upped a little with news that this years season finale of House has been shot exclusively using Canon’s 5D Mark II. House director Greg Yaitanes confirmed the rumours on Twitter and even answered questions about the entire experience and filming process.
The Canon 5D Mark II is a bit of celebrity right now and has been recently used to also film Saturday Night Live’s new opening title sequence as well as feature film Searching For Sonny.

That’s so weird… I just read this article and then the graphic designer at work came to show me a wedding video he’d shot on the same camera! PS. It looked amazing.
Exceptionally informative post. My partner and i enjoy your website mainly because it definitely would seem that you are aware of exactly what you may be discussing about. I would vote you on digg.
So easy to fool people outside of the professional film&video realm that a 5D is a great camera… but it must be said that ONLY in the right hands will it produce the beautiful images you see on promotional videos or -in this instance- episodical tv.
With the movies being quite highly compressed quicktimes (H264), there is a limited amount of post-shoot tweaking that can be done. That means: you HAVE to get it right on the shoot… no room for any semi-major errors in lighting/exposure.
In particular, the blacks are horribly noisy (H264′s fault, not the camera’s) – but this often translates into tedious post work to fix it up to nice broadcast-quality imagery.
It cracks me up how many production companies have gone out to buy themselves this toy which they don’t really understand.
Yet, as stated above, it can be a fantastic, versatile, small and lightweight addition to a production. Especially with proper add-ons (big monitor for focus-pulling, external grips, and many others.
