Julia Gillard joins Twitter

Julia Gillard joins Twitter

Julia Gillard’s only been in the top job for two weeks, but she’s already got her finger on the pulse. Joining Twitter this week, Julia’s first post was a plunge into a murky world. “I’ve decided it’s time to take the Twitter plunge! Hopefully I’ll master it. JG.” She’s already got over 14,000 followers, sure to grow in coming months as we head towards the pivotal election period.

Kevin Rudd (under the false pretences of KevinRuddPM) still holds the record of the highest number of followers in Australian politics, just short of a million followers. Former Liberal leader Malcolm Turnbull sitting on a paltry 22, 106 and Tony Abbott looking rather ratty at 10,436. Wonder if this obvious popularity contest is why Wayne Swan hasn’t joined yet?

Why is it that politicians jump on the social media bandwagon when they’re trying to appeal to the ‘yoof’? Julia should show true leadership and come up with a better asylum policy instead of farting about on Twitter

it looks like she is following over 4,000 people too. i wonder who she chooses to follow, or if she (i.e her PA) just ‘follows’ all her ‘followers’?

this could be a bad point. what is one of them turns out to be a badguy, the media will go crazy ‘julia gillard has been following a child killer on twitter’

I wish you would get back to your old self as you have shown in the house with your great debating skill’s.
you are are making this election campaign boring and allowing Mr Abbott to make all the running. as you can see from the latest Newspoll.
Please get back to your old self and stop the stage management that is going on now – otherwise you will be playing catch up very soon in this election.

listen to the people not the party machine.
