It seems like last week’s IFA technology fair in Berlin was the place to be with most of the major tech companies announcing their latest gadgets, many of which have been slated by bloggers as mere Apple ripoffs.
A major player this year was Sony, with the launch of its new video and music service, set to perhaps take a piece from Apple’s massive share in the game with the market dominating iTunes.
The cloud service named Qriocity, which has been available in the US since April, will first be made available in Europe with further expansions expected later on in the year.
“Via Qriocity, Sony will deliver a variety of digital entertainment content and services… including video, music, game applications and e-books over time,” says Fujio Nishida, president of Sony Europe.
Building on the experience and 40 million users on its PlayStation Network, its online games platform which has more than 40 million users, Qriocity will be available on PlayStation 3s, Bravia TVs, Blu-Ray players and Sony’s personal computers and will enable users to download titles from most of the major studios including MGM Studios, Lionsgate and 20th Century Fox.
