Competition: In a Burton Wonderland

Tim Burton fans, hold on to your seats, because this competition is pretty damn rad.

In preparation for Tim Burton: The Exhibition, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), has announced an online competition and exhibition – with a chance for Burton himself to check out your talents.

ACMI are inviting all you creative folk out their to submit your  original Tim Burton inspired art and photography – think swirling spirals, guys with scissors for hands, skinny stick people with big heads…you get the idea. ACMI curators will first select the artworks to appear in the online gallery and then Burton will select his top ten artworks. This shortlist will then be thrown open to the public to vote for the top piece.

“ACMI wants to tap local creative talent to construct a fantastical online gallery of Burton-inspired artwork,” says ACMI Screen Events Manager, Helen Simondson. “Whether it be images of your drawings, cartoons, paintings, sculptures, costume creations or photographic works, we want to see what you can come up with for our online Burton-inspired Wonderland.”

Submissions are open to all levels, ages, mediums and styles of visual artists, and close at 5pm (AEST) on the spookiest date in the calendar – Friday 13 August, 2010.

Tim Burton: The Exhibition is open 24 June to 10 October 2010 at ACMI, Melbourne.
